The Bird In Hand serves delicious flavoursome homemade food.
It is a dog friendly traditional country pub and restaurant situated at the heart of the community in the village of Fforest near Pontarddulais. It is one of the winners of the 2025 Tripadvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards.
The Bird In Hand has been an integral part of the community for over 200 years and has a warm welcome for all.
The Bird In Hand is independently owned and in 2019 was extensively renovated. With the support of the locals the Bird In Hand has now re-taken it's place within the heart of the community once again.
We are very proud to say that the owner has been farming for over twenty years. The Bird In Hand has embraced the farm-to-fork concept for many years with all our lamb coming directly from our very own Pontabraham Farm, just two miles from the 'Bird'. In fact, the fields opposite The Bird In Hand are part of this holding, where you can often see our livestock grazing on fresh, green grass. This close connection between farm and table ensures the highest quality delicious Welsh lamb for our customers. This is something we are very proud of as we strongly believe that this factor contributes greatly to the flavour, taste and texture of the meat. This concept may be familiar to many of you as it has also been adopted by Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm and The Farmers Dog Pub.
Similar to Jeremy Clarkson's model we do our utmost to source all our products locally. We also have on draught many of Jeremy's famous Hawkstone beers, such as the Premium and Session Lagers, Cider, IPA and Black Stout. In addition to Hawkstone Gin and Vodka.
We are also very proud to embrace the concept of supporting Welsh and British farming.
The Bird In Hand is very proud to offer our FREE stylish 8 seater courtesy minibus available every Friday and Saturday evenings, maybe available other times on request. *

The Bird In Hand is happy to welcome dogs in our Bar and Snug areas where a fresh bowl of water and a nice doggy treat will be waiting. Also available in our Bar and Snug areas is our Main Menu, Specials, Bar Bites and a wide selection of Draughts, Wines, Cocktails and much much more.
We have a beautiful upstairs function room that has air-conditioning and is FREE to hire. Our function room is ideal to hold all your special events, from Private Meetings, Birthday Celebrations, Weddings, Christenings, Anniversaries, and Family Gatherings.

Lisa DaviesWe traveled down to visit the Bird in Hand from Lampeter just to try the Chili Hot Dog on the specials menu - and we didn't regret it! The portion was massive! Their chip shop-style chips are fantastic (better than our local award winning chip shop), and the hot dog was just amazing - the cheese sauce was 👌. I also opted for the Salted Caramel & Chocolate Slice on their specials menu and it was superb - the vanilla fond on the top was incredible. My partner had the Bread & Butter Pudding and he said it was equally fantastic. We coupled our visit with a shopping trip to Llanelli, so we'll be definitely doing this again soon and looking forward to try something else on the menu!
